atlantic-stone-fish-one-of-one
Atlantic Stone Fish - One of One

Atlantic Fish — Hand-Carved Atlantic Stone

A form discovered in stone, shaped by hand beside the Atlantic.

This piece began with a naturally shaped piece of dark stone collected from the Atlantic coast. The stone already carried the beginnings of a fish like form, including a natural hollow that suggested an eye.

Rather than trying to force the stone into a predetermined design, I worked with its natural contours, gradually carving and refining the shape until the fish emerged from the stone.

The piece was carved by hand beside the Atlantic in Co. Clare, on stormy coastal days an environment that felt particularly appropriate for a piece inspired by the sea.

Every mark has been made by hand, following the character, imperfections and natural shape of the original stone. The fish is presented on a separately polished natural stone stand, allowing the sculpture to sit almost as though it has come directly from the shoreline.

Hand carved in Ireland • Atlantic stone • One of a kind

No two pieces like this can ever be replicated. The shape of the original stone, its natural markings and the way it responds to the carving all determine the final form.

Farrell & Co — inspired by the wild Atlantic.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0739/3424/1943/files/D01A6471-B145-4C71-BB2A-9D63CB126A8F.jpg?v=1789896703
